Frequently Asked Question’s
FAQ’s
What to do when someone dies?
The first thing to do is to register the death. Contact a registry office to do this. They will tell you what to do next. They will issue either a certificate of burial or cremation and this needs to be given to your chosen Funeral Director.
If the cause of death is unknown, sudden or unexplained he may be reported to the coronor. He will then decide either:
- The cause of death is clear
- If a post mortem is needed
- To hold and inquest.
You can also contact your local council to find resources and support to help in terms of bereavement.
What is a Pre-Arranged Funeral?
Pre-arranged funerals are made prior to death and is a way of making sure that your loved ones life is celebrated the way they wanted.
What is embalming and is it required?
Embalming works to sanitize the body and slow down deterioration, therefore, enhancing the appearance of the deceased. This allows families to view their loved one for longer before the service. A person does not have to be embalmed, but we would recommend it if there is a longer wait for the funeral service.
Can the service be personalised?
Of course, we highly recommend personalising your memorial service to celebrate their life in a way that makes you feel comfortable. We are always available to discuss your options with you.
Do I have to have a Minister at the service?
No, you do not have to have a Minister at the service. We will work with you with whatever you want whether that be a celebrant or nobody at all. A member of the family or a friend could even get up and say a few words instead.
Can family members carry the coffin into the service?
Yes, family members can carry the coffin into the service, but if you decide not to on the day, you can either wheel the coffin into the service on the wheel bier, or our own bearers can do it.
How many people can be seated in a limousine?
Each limousine can seat six people, or seven at a push if needed. Six people can sit in the rear seating area and one more can be seated in the front with the chauffeur. If there are more than 7 people wanting to be seated in a limousine, you will need a second limousine for the cortege.
I don’t have much money, is there any help out there?
You may be able to get a Funeral Expenses Payment. If you contact the Department for Work and Pensions, they will be able to give you more information about whether you are eligible or not. You can find more information at https://www.gov.uk/funeral-payments
